A computer virus that poses as a Shockwave movie and
urges victims to install the Linux operating system
appears to be spreading at a worrisome rate. Known as
“Prolin,” or pro-Linux, the bug politely places
instructions on how to recover from infections on the
victim’s computer. By last night, at least four large
corporations were infected. And in the past 24 hours,
McAfee, a division of Network Associates Inc.,
received reports of the virus from 50 companies and
raised its risk rating on the bug to “high.”
