NEW YORK (Reuters) - International Business Machines Corp. IBM.N said on
Thursday it filed a counter-claim against SCO Group Inc. SCOX.O , which sued
IBM in March over intellectual property rights.
A spokeswoman for Armonk, New York-based IBM, the world's largest computer
company, said the counter-claim was filed in a Utah court.
SCO, based in Lindon, Utah, sued IBM for $1 billion in March, charging IBM
had taken parts of the Unix code and introduced them into Linux, violating
SCO's intellectual property rights.
Linux is an operating system supported by a network of programmers who share
software codes and can be obtained for free, making it popular with companies
looking to cut costs.
