What is the difference between MM cable and SM cable?
MultiMode fiber is generally used where distances do not exceed 5km,
whereas SingleMode fiber can reach distances of 50 times greater than multimode fiber.
The actual distance you achieve with single mode fiber varies according to the
manufacturer of the devices used with the cable. You also get higher bandwidth and
twice the throughput with single mode fiber than with multimode fiber.
