a.. How to use this Site
        b.. System Requirements and Downloads
a.. Download Internet Explorer or Windows Media Player

a.. To Prepare, Review: How the OSI Model Works
1.. Introduction: TCP/IP -- The Internet Suite of Protocols
          a.. Part 1 -- Click to Start (12 minutes)

        2.. How Ethernet Works
          a.. Part 1 -- Click to Start (9 minutes)
b.. Part 2 (7 minutes) -- Only available on CDROM version.
c.. Part 3 (11 minutes) -- Only available on CDROM version.

Part 2 and 3 include detailed explanations of Ethernet's Physical and Data Link Layer's properties. In the Physical Layer section we look at cabling and connectors of key Ethernet specifications, the star and bus interconnection methods, and encoding method. In the Data Link section we look at Ethernet (MAC) addressing, Ethernet packet frame format, CSMA/CD, and Ethernet's error detection methods.

3.. How IP (Internet Protocol) Works
          a.. Part 1 -- Click to Start (7 minutes)
b.. Part 2 (15 minutes) -- Only available on CDROM version.

In Part 2 we look at IP routing mechanisms by looking at key fields in the IP packet format. First we look at a example on how routing works, then we look at how and why IP fragmentation works (including the related IP packet fields), how the IP Time to Live (TTL) packet field works, and finally we take a look at the IP packet "Protocol" field.

4.. How TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) Works
          a.. Part 1 -- Click to Start (7 minutes)
b.. Part 2 (8 minutes) -- Only available on CDROM version.
c.. Part 3 (9 minutes) -- Only available on CDROM version.

Part 2 and 3 include detailed explanations of how TCP works. We first talk about key fields in the TCP packet header. We take a close look at how a TCP connection is setup (the TCP three-way handshake) and then we look at how TCP transfers data. We then look at how TCP ports works and take a look at the difference between connection-orientated and connectionless protocols.

5.. How UDP (User Datagram Protocol) Works
          a.. Part 1 -- Click to Start (3 minutes)

6.. How HTTP and HTML Protocols Work
          a.. Part 1 -- Click to Start (9 minutes)

7.. How Networking Works (How all the Protocols Work Together)
          a.. Part 1 -- Click to Start (9 minutes)
b.. Part 2 (8 minutes) -- Only available on CDROM version.

In Part 2 we continue with our detailed example of network communication. In Part 1 we build a packet step by step, now we will follow it on the network wire to the server and follow the server's response to the client.
