Linux leaders: read their lips!
------------------------------------------

By 2001, many high-availability versions of Linux will be available,
unless "Microsoft put out a hit list on all of us, and even that would
only slow it down a little."
--Alan Robertson, developer for the High Availability Linux Project,
speaking to SearchEnterpriseLinux.com writer Rick Cook

LEAD STORY
"Clustering Linux for high availability arrives, but barely"
About a dozen projects are now underway to produce high-availability
versions of Linux. The best advice in sorting through them all is to
carefully separate what actually exists from what is promised and
examine the details of each.

Several products have tried, using emulation, to allow the user to run
more than one operating system at the same time, including Win-OS2,
which was built into IBM OS/2, and DOSEMU, a Linux-based emulator that
runs DOS programs. VMWare is truly "impressive as it is the first
product to take the next step," says this product reviewer.

A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"Hackers meddle in election contest"
In the Internet age, it doesn't take much to turn presidential politics
into dirty politics. Just ask former Romanian President Ion Iliescu,
who is running again for the country's top job. Hackers don't seem to
be Iliescu's biggest fans. They've rerouted his official Web site to
take surfers to the FBI's Most Wanted page. Despite the online detour,
Iliescu's campaign remains on track. He's the leading candidate in the
November elections.
