IT'S OFFICIAL
America Online Inc. and Netscape Communications Corp. signed
the deal on a $4.2 billion merger. AOL will now have control
of Netscape's popular Netcenter Web site, with nine million
members, as well as its enterprise software. The deal includes
a three-year pact marketing and development pact with Sun
Microsystems Inc. Sun will help AOL distribute Netscape's commerce
software, and the two companies will co-develop new technologies
and devices using Sun's Java language.
