ENC announces Searching the Web
August 6, 1998

The Eisenhower National Clearinghouse for Mathematics and Science Education
(ENC) has created a new Internet resource called Searching the Web, located
at http://numa.niti.org/enc/ ENC's Resource Center developed these pages
for the National Indian Telecommunications Institute (NITI). They serve as
an instructional guide to finding information on the Web.

Designed primarily as a training tool for teachers, "Searching the Web"
provides information for both novice and experienced Web searchers. Three
different modules are available to guide users through the "Basics," take
them "Beyond the Basics," or give them the opportunity to learn "Advanced
Searching" techniques. Some of the topics explored on this site include
question analysis, search strategies, and search engines. Examples are
provided that clearly demonstrate the processes that broaden or narrow Web
searches.

"Searching the Web" is a free service of ENC and NITI. ENC is funded
through a contract with the U.S. Department of Education's Office of
Educational Research and Improvement. ENC identifies effective curriculum
resources and disseminates useful information and products to improve K-12
mathematics and science teaching and learning. For more information about
this project, send e-mail to the Resource Center (library@enc.org) or call
ENC: (800) 621-5785. Visit ENC Online at http://www.enc.org
